Coaching for Communication Partners

Are you working with whanau and teams exploring AAC, and want to learn how to coach the communication partners?

Dr Sam Brydon has developed a fabulous workshop from her doctoral research. This 2-day course will provide you with the skills and knowledge to confidently coach the communication partners of children who use AAC. There is a particular focus on parents and caregivers, but the skills can be generalised to any other significant communication partners, including education staff.

Day 1 will cover four evidence-based sets of strategies that communication partners need to know to support children with AAC. Each strategy will be covered in detail, and you will be provided with learning resources to share with the communication partners. The evidence for coaching will also be examined.

Day 2 will introduce you to the EP-AAC coaching model. This will be broken down into a step-by-step guide with multiple opportunities for you to practise coaching skills.

By the end of the course, you will have an understanding about why coaching is the preferred option for adults who are learning complex skills, what strategies need to be covered when implementing AAC, and how to deliver effective coaching to communication partners.

Some testimonials from the workshop include:

I really loved this course and found it highly valuable and incredibly helpful. The videos, your real life examples and experiences. You are an incredibly engaging and enthusiastic presenter, I was captivated the whole time! Ngā mihi nui ki a koe Sam! Kei runga noa atu koe!

Thankyou so much! This has been one of the best PD courses I've attended and I can already see how much it will change my practice.
