AAC Awareness Month

Posted by: Ann Smaill

October is AAC awareness month. International AAC Awareness Month is celebrated around the world each October. The goal is to raise awareness of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) and to inform the public about the many different ways in which people communicate using communication devices. Dare to Lead is this year’s theme for International AAC Awareness Month As AAC activists and supporters of the NZ Speech-Language Therapists’ Association’s  Giving Voice Aotearoa campaign, which aims to make New Zealand communication accessible, TalkLink are daring to lead in building awareness of AAC.

So are our clients, and our two TalkLink ambassadors are excellent examples of people who, thanks to advances in AAC technology, are leading the way in promoting AAC and building awareness. Both Mke and Geneva recently contributed to the Giving Voice Campaign by talking about the importance and value of communication. You can view Mke’s comments here and Geneva’s here

Both Mke and Geneva have contributed nationally and internationally to the promotion of AAC, with their contributions at the ISAAC conference in Australia earlier this year being a highlight for all of us at TalkLink. Mke presented the Outstanding Consumer lecture and the video is now available online. Way to go!
